Financial Analysis Masterclasses
Structured instruction in the fundamentals of financial analysis — how to read statements, evaluate risk, and form judgements grounded in actual data.
Instruction grounded in practice
Each masterclass at Domain covers one specific area of financial analysis in depth. Sessions are led by practitioners who work with financial data regularly — not instructors who teach theory in isolation.
The curriculum addresses the mechanics of balance sheet interpretation, cash flow modelling, ratio analysis, and the logic behind valuation decisions. Participants work through real company filings rather than constructed examples.
- Income statement and balance sheet mechanics
- Cash flow analysis and working capital assessment
- Financial ratio interpretation with context
- Valuation fundamentals: DCF and comparable methods
Flexible remote format
All sessions are delivered online and recorded. Participants in Halifax and across Atlantic Canada can attend live or review recordings at their own pace without schedule conflicts.
Working materials included
Each module includes spreadsheet templates, annotated filings, and guided exercises. These are usable tools, not PDFs to file away — participants apply them during instruction and keep them afterward.
Structured progression
The program follows a deliberate sequence — foundational statement reading before ratio analysis, ratio analysis before valuation. Skipping ahead is possible, but the sequence exists for a reason and most participants find it worthwhile.
What changes with structured instruction
Financial statements contain a consistent set of signals. Reading them without a framework means missing most of them.
Unfamiliar territory
- Reading an annual report takes hours with unclear results
- Ratios calculated without knowing what range signals concern
- Cash flow and profit treated as interchangeable
- Valuation figures accepted without knowing the underlying assumptions
Grounded analytical skill
- Financial statements parsed systematically, key figures located quickly
- Ratios read in context — industry norms and trend direction both considered
- Cash flow patterns distinguished from accounting profit with confidence
- Valuation models built from scratch, assumptions tested independently
What the program actually involves
Sessions run for approximately 90 minutes each and follow a consistent structure: a short conceptual introduction, a worked example with a real filing, and a guided exercise participants complete independently before discussion.
The pace is deliberate. Concepts are not treated as self-explanatory, and there is time allocated within each session for questions. Recordings are available within 24 hours for participants who need to review material or attend at a different time.
